Weekly Update 9/27

New Mascot??

Confirmed Case

While a number of Smithfield students have been tested, just one student tested positive for the coronavirus during the first two weeks of school.  This high school student was exposed to the virus outside of the school environment. Our nurse and administrators worked with the Department of Health to identify close contacts.  A close contact is defined as an individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes.  The RIDOH used our classroom seating charts and the child’s lunch group to identify five students who are to be quarantined.  These students and their families have been notified and will not return to school until after the defined period.

We are working hard to keep our school community safe and healthy. If your student is experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, please keep them home and get them tested at one of the free PreK-12 testing sites. In the event that a student or staff at our school tests positive, the Rhode Island Department of Health will be notified immediately and will start the process of contact tracing and communication with families. To support fast and efficient contact tracing, it is important that we have the most up-to-date contact information for your student. Please update the Parent Portal to provide the new contact information.

Parent Portal Updates

Thanks to all the parents & guardians who have taken the time to visit the portal and complete the Annual Student Update! If you have not yet had the chance to do the annual update and are a parent or guardian of a Smithfield Public School student…please visit Parent portal.

After you have completed your login to the Portal at http://bit.ly/SPS-ParentPortal – you can visit the “More” link on the right side, and choose “Online Registration” to begin the annual information update of your students.

We must have you do this to sign off annually on various permission forms, handbooks and other questions that used to be handled on paper. Please do this by midnight, September 30.
Once you complete this, you can download a PDF copy of all the information for your records.  Updates to the information are stored on our student information system securely and provide a quicker, more efficient way for us to update your yearly changes.

For more information on this or if you have any questions during the process, visit this webpage page or email us at technosps@smithfield-ps.org, or contact our Data Manager, Melissa Battiston during business hours at 401-231-6606.
