No School – November 3 – Election Day
No school for students on November 3rd. Staff have a Professional Development day.
No School – November 11 – Veterans Day
On October 30th, Smithfield High School was notified that a student at SHS tested positive for COVID-19. Staff worked closely with RIDOH’s COVID-19 Unit to determine who had close contact with the person who tested positive. This positive case resulted in three students being quarantined.
Please let our school nurse know if your child has been put on quarantine for a non-school-related contact, such as from a sports team or family member. We do not get lists of quarantined students unless the quarantine stems from contact from an infected student or staff member. We code these absences differently than for other absences and can arrange for distance learning during the quarantine.
With last Friday’s snow event we thought it would be good to share the Virtual/Snow Schedule should the need arise. You may find both schedules here. Just click the appropriate tab.
As many of you know, the Governor added new restrictions across the state last Friday. The new restrictions will impact the remainder of Fall athletics. Fans are not permitted to attend games at this time. Please click here for additional information from the RIIL.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent – Teacher Conferences will take place on Monday, November 16, 2020. Conferences will be held from 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm – 7:45 pm. Conferences will be virtual this year via Google Hangout. Parents will need to register for a time slot with each teacher they want to meet with. Additional information will be emailed this week.
2020 School Pictures with Lifetouch
SHS will be working with Lifetouch this year for school photographs. School photographs will take place on November 9th and 10th in the auditorium. In-person students will be photographed between 11 am and 1:30 pm on both days. Virtual students will have the opportunity to have their photo taken from 2 pm – 4 pm in the auditorium.
While Picture Day may look different this year, your safety remains our priority. SHS and Lifetouch will adhere to all safety protocols. Students will be kept socially distant. A mask will be worn right up until the photo is taken. Lifetouch has implemented comprehensive Picture Day safety protocols that you may review here.
Ordering Photos – Help us offer SAFE, paperless and ‘contactless’ school photos! Order online and your student will not need to return any items to SHS on his/her school picture day. Please click here to order school photos!
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, INCLUDING SCHEDULING FOR VIRTUAL STUDENTS WILL BE EMAILED TO FAMILIES SEPARATELY.
Apple Crunch Day
SHS was fortunate to host Apple Crunch Day this year. This is a great partnership with the Rhode Island DEM, Chartwells, and Smithfield Public Schools.
Just a reminder that SHS will be closed 11/25 – 11/27 for Thanksgiving break.
